"Extinct"

This is the hand drawn pattern for the piece "Extinct".

It's done on dot paper, also known as dressmaker's pattern paper. The paper has small demarkations for each inch, which makes it easier to design your pattern without an actual grid.

After cleaning up your sketch, an "Electro-Pounce" machine is used to punch holes in the pattern along the pencil lines. These little perforations are where the chalk goes through to create a ghost of your letters to use as reference for your painting.
